To graduate my first year in animation school, I had to complete a final project: rendering two images based on a given theme. This year, the theme was a child’s bedroom, and I decided to design a space for a kid growing up in the early 2000s with an obsession with pirates.
I filled the room with adventure-themed furniture, like a bed shaped like a wooden ship, complete with a Jolly Roger sail as a canopy. The walls were adorned with drawn treasure maps and posters of classic pirate movies. Scattered across the floor were toy swords, a makeshift treasure chest overflowing with plastic gold coins, and a CD player by the window with their favorite pirate music. Every detail, from the bedsheets to the weathered blue parchment-style wallpaper, was carefully crafted to bring the fantasy of a young pirate enthusiast to life.
Because of COVID-19, we only rendered one image, but we still had to do the whole pre-production of both still!
